Job Summary

Based in Akron OH, the Linux Software Development Engineer, under the guidance of the senior software engineering team, will be become a key member of Laird's global software development team, responsible for creating Laird's Enterprise class WiFi and Bluetooth radios, embedded Linux System on Module and Gateway products. 

  • Design, develop and test new applications, as well as interfaces. Participate in software development projects following a formal process, including software design, code reviews, use of software standards, and testing
  • Maintaining Laird's Linux Kernel, build root, network manager, backports, bug fixing, and Jenkins build system in line with mainline kernel
  • Maintenance and updates for Laird's WiFi and BT Regulatory tool suite for both Linux and Android OS
  • Merging of open source changes into legacy products, customer releases and current release branches
  • Modifications and documentation for Laird's network stack including Network Manager and Summit Supplicant
  • Supporting Field Applications Engineering team with customer issues
  • Prepare documents, including requirements analysis, design, unit testing plans, release notes and user guides etc. as directed
  • Provide basic application support, analysis, and design related to applications running expansive business systems/functions globally
  • Creating tools for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth regulatory compliance
  • Developing for AWS IoT, including Python and Lambda run time
  • Collaborate effectively with other groups and business partners
  • Investigate, recommend and implement new technologies
  • Knowledge on defining project scope, deliverables and team requirements
  • Basic knowledge of various technology, which may include: Java, Python, J2EE, EJB, JavaScript, AJAX, REST, SQL, DHTML, Linux, ASP, .NET, SOAP, WS-I, C, C++, C#, and Shell Scripts
  • Able to work successfully in a deadline-driven, fast paced environment and effectively multi-task priorities in a team-oriented environment
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing requirements and schedules
  • Enterprise web application development experience is preferred
  • Experience with Agile projects (Scrum) is a plus
Education & Experience Request
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
  • Experience may be substituted in lieu of degree
  • 0-2 years’ experience in software development
